Howl quartet

Howl Quartet are a London-based chord-less collaborative that joyfully tie their passion for jazz with folk music, contemporary grooves and free improvisation. Their commitment to exquisit melody combined with intricate rhythms and musical communication provides a refreshing outlook on improvised music.

Formed of long standing friends, Howl Quartet brings together four of the finest young improvisers from London’s vibrant jazz scene in this co-lead project. Having already performed at The London Jazz Festival, Vortex Jazz Club and Kansas Smitty’s, they released their debut EP in early 2019 and their first album, ‘Life As We See It’, is set for release in early 2021.

Taking their influences from an eclectic array of sources, Howl Quartet draw together the ferocious ingenuity of jazz improvisation from artists such as Brian Blade, Chris Potter and Bill Frisell whilst also exploring the traditions of European folk and world music. Through a period of intense collective study and writing, they have developed a warm chemistry full of adventure, surprise and energy.
